SERLET project’s aim is to:
a) support and promote Regional Languages from four Member states (FR, GR, ES, IT) as facilitators for cultural fusioning and mutual intercultural understanding, b) enlarge the cultural attractiveness of 7 European regions through an easy and friendly access to the apprenticeship of their languages, c) Europeanize regional languages and culture, d) contribute at enhancing the recognition of the cultural diversities in Europe, e) provide links among educational institutions and world of labour (specifically tourism section), f) provide innovative material -through modern technology- for smartphones, tablets, IOS devices (iphones and ipads) and interactive website.
The project’s target groups are:
a) Tourists and all age groups’ persons (from students to seniors) eager or planning to visit a region in Europe with high cultural identity, specific traditions and patrimony.
b) Educational institutions and language schools providing education on regional languages
c) Teachers of regional languages that benefit from an innovative teaching tool.
(Within the course of the Project, teachers from 7 regions have exchanged, shared experience and learned from each other about methods of teaching a regional language in different contexts. They have acquired experience, have gained from exchanging experience in ethnology, group activities, methods, research, etc. SERLET had a direct impact on the reinforcement of their competencies and directly improved their teaching skills towards thousands of students and learners they train every year).
d) Tourist office boards, Regional agencies for tourism, Travel agencies, Holiday resorts, Hotels, Tour operators, willing to make sensitive and interest publics on their regional language and culture.
e) Persons that perceive an interest at cooperating with homologues from other “regions” to exchange best practices for research, methods, etc.
The regional languages and regions that are supported and promoted by our project’s outputs are:
For France: Alsace, Brittany and Corsica (Alsatian, Breton, Corsican)
For Italy: Sicilia and Sardinia (Sicily, Sardinian)
For Greece: Crete (Cretan)
For Spain: Catalonia (Catalan)
The goals’ of SERLET project have been achieved through the development of:
1) Seven innovative and user friendly android Apps in 7 regional languages versions for smartphones and tablets including:
a) The necessary illustrated conversational and grammatical materials to make possible dialogues in some specific situations (the topics), aiming to motivate our target groups to use the regional languages in real-life situations, including sound options with the correct pronunciation.
b) Short videos of local people from all countries involved using the regional languages in everyday life content (English translation included),
c) Basic Vocabulary for each regional language with translation in English and the official language.
d) Virtual maps of the regions containing 3D historical, cultural monuments, tourist attractions etc. and cultural information which is very useful for tourists planning to visit the particular regions.
e) Special guides and informative material that enrich the users’ knowledge on language and cultural aspects.
2) Interactive, multifunctional website in 4 language versions (FR, GR, IT, ES) plus English and summaries in 7 regional language versions that aim to cover a wider audience that prefer to use PCs or use wi fi connection with their mobile phones free of charge.
The website contain all material included in the seven regional languages apps.
3) Seven books one for each regional language that include: a) the dialogues included in the apps as well as the basic vocabulary, b) history and culture of the region.
